Amy Jo Bowman, of Solon, passed away unexpectedly in a tragic accident near the Skowhegan- Madison town line on Tuesday, March 24, 2015.

Amy was born March 12, 1966 in Skowhegan, the daughter of Richard and Vergie (Norwood) Plourde, their fifth child and "baby". Amy attended Skowhegan Schools and graduated from Skowhegan High School in 1984. As a child, she loved to be outdoors swimming for hours in the family pool, playing at the playground at the end of her street on Greenwood Avenue, camping at Abnaki Campground where she was known as the "Pinball Wizard" and playing softball for community leagues. Her love for the outdoors survived the seasons. She had to be forced to come inside after hours of fort and tunnel building in the snow and sub-freezing temperatures. Amy spent countless hours at Dick's Market in Skowhegan helping to run the family business often loading empty boxes in her Dad's truck for a dump run, pricing groceries with an ink stamper and when she was old enough, standing on a milk crate to run the cash register with help from her parents or an older sibling.

Amy married William C. Bowman on November 24, 1984. He was her first and only true love and throughout their 31 year relationship and marriage, they were always each other's confidants and best friends. Early in their marriage, they started their family welcoming Stacy, their first daughter, followed by Ashley and then Adam. Amy was a natural Mother and was so patient with her babies, so seemingly content to rock them for hours and tend to their every need. Later in life, she would be called the "Baby Whisperer" for her natural ability to calm a child and rock them to sleep. In 2008, the Bowman family expanded when their daughter Stacy delivered twins. MacKenzie and Mason Wright captured the hearts of Meme, Papa, Auntie Ashie and Uncle Adam. Amy had a very strong relationship with her in-laws and in the 90's she worked at the Shed in Athens, Maine alongside her mother and father in-law, Bruce and Nancy Bowman. It was during that time that she was able to expand her love for cooking and was able to learn some of the secret Bowman recipes that made the batters and pie crust that every craved and travelled to eat at this little restaurant off the beaten path. Amy also ran her own catering business for a period of years and cooked at the Lakewood Restaurant for one season.

Amy developed another "work family" during her 9 years as Deli Manager and Baker at the Solon Corner Store. Amy was known for her "daily specials" including Christmas pies and creamy "chowdas". She often stated that John Dayhoof was her favorite boss and she felt so fortunate to work for him. Recently Amy started a new job at the Kel Mat Cafe in Skowhegan. She was so excited to meet her new boss and co-workers and to offer her cooking/baking skills to their team.
Amy will be remembered the most for her quick wit and dry sense of humor. She had the unique ability of "feeling out a room" and then quietly filling it with laughter. We will miss you sweet Amy Baby- Mammie Jo- Momma Jo-Meme.
Besides her husband, Bill, of 30 years , she leaves her children; Stacy, Ashley and Adam Bowman and Adam's girlfriend Kaylee Dickey, her two grandchildren; MacKenzie and Mason Wright , her loyal companion and dog; Mia-Moo, her parents; Richard and Vergie Plourde, three sisters; Jolene Plourde, Diane Godin and husband Larry, Lisa Duguay and husband Brent, her brother; Eric Plourde. She also leaves her mother-in-law, Nancy Bowman, two Brothers-in-law; Gary Bowman and wife Annette, James Bowman and wife Crystal and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her father-in-law Bruce Bowman and her grandparents Leon and Catherine Plourde, Edward and Vernice Maheu and Maynard Norwood.
A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at 11am at the Skowhegan Federated Church, Island Ave., Skowhegan, Maine with Rev. Mark Tanner Officiating. A committal will be held later in the spring at the Southside Cemetery in Skowhegan.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan, Maine. There will be no visiting hours.
